Module 9:  Project contractual structure, rights and obligations

Contractual documentation: Bill of Quantities

The Bill of Quantities (BOQ) is used in a remeasurement contract, and normally specifies:

  • the different items of work which the contractor needs to undertake
  • the estimated quantities of each item of work (calculated at time of tender)
  • the contractor’s unit price for each item of work.

The BOQ is updated periodically (normally monthly) to show the actual quantities of work undertaken by the contractor to date.

The BOQ will be finalised at the completion of the project to show the actual final quantities of work undertaken by the contractor.

Periodic (e.g. monthly) and final payment to the contractor will be based on the BOQ.
