Module 6:  Preventing corruption in project construction

Conclusion

Bribery, fraud, abuse of power, and extortion can be common during the construction phase of an infrastructure project.

It is therefore imperative that:

  • awareness is raised about how corruption takes place during the construction phase and how it can be prevented
  • effective anti-corruption controls are put in place by all relevant project participants during the construction phase
  • effective monitoring, reporting, investigation and prosecution systems are implemented.

It is far cheaper and preferable to prevent corruption from occurring than to allow it to take place, or to deal with the consequences later.

Detailed analysis and actions for preventing corruption on infrastructure projects are contained on GIACC’s website at: https://giaccentre.org/pacs-overview/
