Module 2:  Why infrastructure projects are prone to corruption

Location of projects

The location of projects can make control and inspection more difficult.  For example:

  • A project may be located in a remote area which is hard to access, or far from the organisation’s central management.
  • A road may be constructed over a significant distance, with work taking place in several different locations at the same time.

There may therefore be inadequate supervision due to the location of the project, and it may in consequence be easier for a contractor to provide defective quality or deficient quantities without being observed.
