Module 11:  Corruption dilemmas

Dilemma 3:  Threat of dismissal – Dilemma

You are Commercial Manager of Buildwell.  In relation to both Dilemmas 1 and 2, you have refused to comply with the instructions of Buildwell’s Commercial Director, which are to give false reasons for the delay claim, and to falsely inflate Buildwell’s costs for the variation claim.

The Commercial Director is angry about your refusal.  He is a bully.  Employees of Buildwell are frightened of disagreeing with him.

He calls you into his office, and says:

“That’s twice you have crossed me.  I don’t tolerate that.  Don’t come at me with this ethical nonsense.  We are here to make money.  Either you play the game or you are out of here today for gross misconduct.  And I won’t give you a decent reference either.”

What do you do?

Consider your position, and then go to the analysis on the next page.
