Relationship between the offences

There is often a significant overlap between the different corruption offences, and the relevant corrupt act may result in the commission of several different offences.

An example of the overlap between bribery and fraud is given in the diagram below. In this case, a contractor submits an inflated claim to a project owner (which is fraud) and bribes the project owner’s supervisor (the engineer) to approve the claim (which is bribery).  In addition, the actions of the engineer are likely to constitute an abuse of power.
